General Technical Information

What Is Die Casting?

Die casting is a manufacturing process in which molten metal is introduced into a reusable metal die to form a component with defined geometry.

The manufacturing principle.

The die defines the component form. The selected casting method, component geometry, alloy requirement, tooling concept and process controls together influence whether the proposed route is technically appropriate.

Die casting should be evaluated as a complete production route rather than as an isolated forming step.

Information needed before production.

  • Component drawing and geometry
  • Material or alloy requirement
  • Functional and surface requirements
  • Expected validation and quality requirements
  • Post-casting operations required by the project

Verified RIVIMETAL Capability

High-pressure aluminium die casting.

RIVIMETAL publishes high-pressure aluminium die casting as its primary manufacturing capability, supported by six automated HPDC cells across a 200–1,000 t press range and a published casting capability of 20 g–10 kg.
